Week 5 Recap

Brief recap this week of the highlights of week 5.

Only 2 undefeated teams left, the Falcons and Texans. Arizona lost to the Rams 17-3. Kevin Kolb definitely silenced the haters saying he is not tough enough; he stood in the pocket and took sack after sack 9 times. His O-line will definitely not being getting any gifts from him this year. St. Louis lost Danny Amendola yet again to a possible broken collar bone. Big blow as aside from Steven Jackson he is their best offensive weapon.

There is 1 team 0-5, the Cleveland Browns. They may be the best 0-5 team I have even seen. All 5 have been close and well played by Cleveland. For a (29 year old) rookie, Weeden is playing pretty well. Have to figure one of the weeks they are going to get a win. This week they lost to the Giants. They got off to a fast start 14-0 but the Giants rallied to come back to win with an outstanding 2nd half. Victor Cruz had another phenomenal week with 3 td’s and Ahmad Bradshaw looked unstoppable with 30 carries for 200 yards and 1 td. Hopefully the Gmen can keep up the same production this weekend vs. the 49ers.

Drew Bree’s threw for 4 tds breaking Johnny Unitas’ century old record for td’s thrown in consecutive games in his 48th consecutive game. Great moment for a great QB and person. Also nice to see the Saints finally get their first win beating the Chargers 31-24.

Packers fell to the Colts who rallied in an emotional win for the HC Chuck Pagano, who is being treated for Leukemia. Andrew Luck seems to be living up to the big expectations laid upon him being drafted #1 overall.  Great game for veteran Reggie Wayne as well, 13 receptions for 212 yds and 1 td. Not sure what is going on with the Packers this season. I suppose Rodgers could only mask the deficiencies of his O-Line for so long. Rodgers himself had a great game, 21-33, 243 yds, 3 tds. Sadly the Packers run game is so atrocious he was also their best rusher carrying 5 times for 57 yards. Cedric Benson looks to be out at least 8 weeks with the dreaded Lisfranc fracture in his foot. Big blow to their already lackluster run game. Colts 30 – Packers 27

Eagles lost again to the Steelers 14-16. Didn’t see the game but it was hilarious following it on twitter and seeing all the lovely compliments being bestowed upon Michael Vick and the entire Eagles team. Bet those Eagles are real happy they gave Vick that huge contract. Nick Fowles anyone???

RG III left the game vs. the Falcons with his first NFL concussion. Hopefully he learns to adjust his game a bit as I look forward to watching him for years to come. Cousins came in after and looked pretty good for a rookie backup (who never gets first team reps) throwing for 1 nice td but also 2 unfortunate interceptions. Falcons 24 – Redskins 17

Scam Newton is still stinking up the field this season, he was a very unimpressive 12-29 for 141 yds and 0 tds vs. the Seahawks ridiculously good D. I stand by my assertions that once his maturity level and leadership skills are on par with his phenomenal athletic ability he will be a great QB in the NFL. Until then, not so much. Seahawks 16 – Panthers 12

Finally, saving the best for last. I am sorry, but it’s time to talk Tebow. All I ever hear is Tebow cannot throw. Well Sanchez threw for 50% this week with 2 costly interceptions in the redzone. His QBR for the game was 10! He now has the lowest QBR in his first 5 games since JaMarcus Russell, yeah that guy who was the biggest number 1 bust of all time aside from maybe Ryan Leaf. Tebow threw the best deep pass of the game to new receiver Jason Hill who bobbled and dropped the ball. Great throw, horrible receiving. You know that the opposing team thinks so much of your starting QB (Sanchez) when they say they spent 40% of their practice that week preparing for your backup, who up until that point had only taken 12% of the offensive snaps. Just give Tebow a chance for a complete series at least. Tebow at most has played 3 consecutive plays so far this season. On one series Tebow broke free for 13 yds to the 3 yd line. Granted he got stuffed on the next play, but at least let him try and run it in one more time. Nope, Sanchez comes in and throw it in JJ Watt’s direction and he tips the pass. Sanchez looked like he was playing catch with JJ Watt all night, how do you not learn to not throw the ball in his direction when he has been tipping your passes all night?!
Seriously Rex, just give Tebow a complete series to work with and see what he can do. You are confusing both your QB’s and entire offense; no one knows who’s coming in and out and when. Tebow is creating a great series and you pull him for Sanchez, Sanchez starts off a nice series and you pull him for a play for Tebow. CHOSE ONE! Sanchez is for sure the far superior QB physically, but I think he has established he does not have the mental makeup to succeed in the NFL.

It’s Tebowtime!

Till next time

Sassy
