Words for Thought -Broke/Herm Edwards edition

Last night I watched the 30 For 30 documentary "Broke" on ESPN. If you did not watch it yet, I highly recommend you DVR or TIVO it. It details how many athletes are broke by the time their careers are over or shortly thereafter. They interview many former athletes who talk about how they spent their money, who they spent it on and sometimes who took their money. Parts of it are truly heartbreaking. As much as we think these athletes are idiots for blowing through all their money, it makes you wonder if you came from nothing or bad circumstances what would you do if all of a sudden at 21 and you were a multi-millionaire how would you spend the money? It seems too easy to judge when you are not in their shoes.

I have always been a fan of Herm Edwards on ESPN. The former cornerback and coach always seem to have a flair for being very quotable. Well last night in Broke was no exception. Below are some of his great lines from both broke and a rookie symposium where he spoke at in 2011.

Herm Edwards -
"You got champagne taste, but you only got beer money. That's not good!"

"Oh you've got a goal? What's your plan to achieve that goal? Because if you don't have a plan then you don't have a goal, you've got yourself a wish. Don't wish."

“Sign your contract… one car, one house, one piece of jewelry. You get one girlfriend or one wife – not both.”

“You get one piece of jewelry. You don’t need the Mr. T starter set” and “If it’s midnight, get out of there. Nothing good happens after midnight.”

Love you Herm, always telling it like it is.

xoxo

Sassy
